WHAT ARE INJECTABLES?
Injectable treatments can fall into a variety of different categories, but the main two are known as neuromodulators and dermal fillers. Each of these injectable treatments works to temporarily reduce or eliminate visible signs of aging on the face; however, they differ in their formulations, longevity and the symptoms of aging they can address.
Neuromodulator injectables are designed to target the small facial muscles responsible for forming expression lines and wrinkles in the skin. When injected beneath the skin’s surface into targeted areas of the face, neuromodulators work to safely and temporarily freeze muscle movement to smooth expression lines and prevent wrinkle-forming contractions from occurring.
With regularly scheduled touch-up appointments a few times a year, patients who undergo neuromodulator injections can soften or erase their frown lines, crow’s feet or forehead wrinkles for a more refreshed and relaxed appearance.

THE SCIENCE
Neuromodulators are wrinkle-relaxing injections of botulinum toxin – known as Botox Cosmetic, Dysport, Xeomin, or Jeuveau – they are used to treat wrinkles, frown lines, and crow’s feet. When our faces animate with expressions, such as frowning, surprise, and smiles, we develop forehead lines, deep furrows- “elevens”(in between the brows), crow’s feet, and “bunny lines” (the vertical lines across the bridge of the nose). To combat this, a minute amount of the neuromodulator is injected directly into the underlying muscles, all of which are responsible for horizontal lines on the forehead, deep furrows, “elevens,” and crow’s feet, causing it to relax and gradually smooth out the appearance of the overlying skin. Over time, wrinkles in the skin fade, causing your skin to become smoother. The effects typically last about three months.”
The Treatment
At Lush Skin Aesthetics, your treatment is individually customized based on the amount of muscle movement. Larger muscles may require a higher dosage. We’ll perform a follow-up visit to assess whether additional treatment is needed. We recommend treatment every three months.

THE SCIENCE
As the years go by, the same facial expressions, such as frowning or smiling, can cause fine lines and wrinkles on several face areas. To treat and prevent these fine lines and wrinkles, Botox relaxes the corrugator, procerus, and orbicularis oculi muscles for a certain amount of time. These muscles produce horizontal lines on the forehead, deep furrows between the brows (also called the “11’s”), and fine lines near the outer corner of the eyes. A minimally invasive Botox or Dysport treatment will prevent the nerve signals from reaching these muscles, reducing the movement of the muscles and fully relaxing the skin. Wrinkles fade gradually, and less dosage is used for each procedure.

- The face should be clean and dry without any makeup on the face or lips.
- No alcoholic drinks at least 24 hours prior to treatment because alcohol may thin the blood, which will increase the risk of bruising.
- Avoid anti-inflammatory medications for 3-5 days before treatment. Medications and supplements such as aspirin, vitamin E, ginkgo Biloba, ginseng, garlic, Omega 3/Fish Oil supplements, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, Aleve, and other NSAIDS are blood thinners and can increase the risk of bruising and swelling after injections.
- Reschedule your appointment at least a day in advance if you have a cold sore, blemish, or rash on your face. Be sure to have a good meal before your procedure. This will decrease the chances of lightheadedness during your treatment.
The results last 3-4 months.
Yes. You may get mild redness, bruising, or swelling. These symptoms subside within a few hours.
Most treatments are quick and convenient, lasting no longer than 30 minutes. New patient visits are longer at 1 hour. You may experience a longer treatment time if you opt to undergo a comprehensive treatment that utilizes a combination of neuromodulators and filler products. The visit will be longer.
Immediately following your neurotoxin treatment, you are free to leave our office and resume almost all normal activities. However, patients should avoid strenuous activities for 24 hours after their treatment to prevent the possibility of migration. As minimally-invasive treatments, injectables produce very minimally, if any, side effects. You may experience some bruising, redness, or swelling at the site of your injections; however, these symptoms should resolve within a day or two of your treatment.
Most patients see results within 14 days after treatment. Treatments last an average of 3 months. We recommend treatments 3-4 times a year for most people. When you see muscle activity returning to the point where you see your skin creasing, it is time for your next treatment.
